The Brown University Animal Care and Use Program for BIRCH organizations is a unified structure overseeing all functions relating to the care and use of animals in research.

We are pleased to announce that as of November 2025, animal care and research compliance for BIRCH organizations have been unified under a single program at Brown University. This integration brings the IACUC (previously managed by Brown University Health) and daily operations under one roof, led jointly by the Brown University Attending Veterinarian and Institutional Official.

Our goal is to streamline your research experience—enhancing operational efficiency and optimizing research space while maintaining the highest standards of compliance.

This unified program is supported by two collaborative teams:

  • Center for Animal Resources and Education (CARE): Your partner for vivaria operations and husbandry.
  • Animal Research Compliance (ARC): Your resource for IACUC protocols and regulatory oversight within the Division of Research.
