Brown Innovation and Research Collaborative for Health

Human Research Protection Program

The Brown HRPP serves as the centralized oversight body for human subjects research conducted at Brown University, Brown University Health, and Care New England.

Brown Human Research Protection Program (HRPP)

We are pleased to announce that as of January 2026, the human research protection operations of Brown University, Brown University Health, and Care New England are officially operating as a single, unified program. As of May 2026, the Huron IRB software system officially serves as the single system of record for human subjects research across the collaborating institutions.

By bringing together our HRPP and IRB operations, we are creating a more seamless, efficient, and integrated environment that simplifies multi-institution research. Furthermore, ensuring consistent application of ethical standards, regulatory compliance, and institutional policies across all research sites. Key features include:

  • A unified IRB review framework
  • One centralized Huron IRB system
  • A shared HRPP Toolkit and standardized submission materials
  • A four-panel IRB structure supported by a single flexible roster
  • Centralized education, consultation, and support resources

This unified program operates within Brown University’s Division of Research. Visit the website below for details on how to navigate these services.
